PEMDAS states that you would do things in parenthese firs. so the only thing you can do is the 2*5 which gives you 10. next you do things with exponents. so you do 10squared and then 5squared. so at this point you have 100-2(25). you then multiply the 2 and 25, so you get 100-50 and then you subtract to get 50

10^2 - 2(5^2)
100 - 2(25)
100 - 50
= 50

(2*5)......multiply what is in parenthesis first then square. 2(5) is the same as (2*5).....so, multiply 2(5) first then square. If you were to square any number before multiplying, the request to square it would be within the parenthesis
