Probably because they are light, impervious to the weather like wood would not be...and not rusting like a steel ladder would. One thing I have found tho' is that the braces can easily twist on an aluminum ladder if not folded properly, and this can compromise the support! Like I have found out on a couple of occasions.

Besides being lightweight, aluminum is fabulous because it lasts forever. I just bought these aluminum lawn chairs from the 70s and they look brand new! No rust, no rot, no problem!

because it is light weight and sturdy. other ladders are made of wood and fiberglass. depending on the use ladders are selected by the material they were built. ex.. electricians mostly use fiberglass as they dont transfer electricity. i use an aluminum ladder for trimming trees and bushes because they are cheaper!

They're lightweight, but not recommended for working around electrical lines for obvious reasons.
