I think every major league team would rather have Frank Thomas than Sammy Sosa, largely because Thomas is much more consistent. As long as Thomas doesn't get hurt, he's a pretty reasonable bet to go at least 25 HR/100 RBI and be a respectable middle-of-the-order guy. Sosa has been on a tear recently, but you never know when a guy like that could go cold, and as old as Sosa is, he may never escape from another cold streak.
If we're talking in Hall of Fame terms, however, I'd have to admit that Sosa would be the more likely admit. Steroid allegations aside, during his prime he put up some amazing numbers.

Sosa has the better career numbers and is currently on a tear. Frank Thomas has been good and known for his power, but is not exactly in the same tier as Sosa! :)

While the stats certainly say that Thomas was the better offensive player you must also conisder the defense each player brings to the game. As for Sosa his range was always considered to be average to slightly above average while his arm strenth has always been very good (though his range and arm strength have declined in recent yrs.). Thiomas on the other hand is the poster boy for DH, his range has always been limited and his arm (both accuracy and strength) lousy.

Neither had defense going for them so you have to base it strictly on hitting. Frank is superior to Sammy in all categories other than total home runs plus he didn't have a steroid cloud hanging over him.
