I bought a used Hoover at a yard sale last year. It's probably about 5 years old. I only paid $25. It's worked great, so far. I have wall to wall carpeting and pets, so I use it a lot. It is very heavy and it's an effort to push it. That's why the first owner sold it. I do know what you mean about Hoover not being what it used to be. I'm an old lady and remember the all metal Hoovers that lasted generations. I've also found that Eurekas aren't any good. I went through quite a few of them. The most reliable vac I've had is a Shop Vac, but it's not very convenient for inside use.

Hoover used to be the brand you could rely on. Now? Rubbish.
My Mum's really old model worked for many, many years without needing anything. But when we bought her a new Hoover, when we started work, it couldn't even suck up crumbs. Fell apart soon after. She still swore by Hoover, but vacuum cleaners and washing machines, all were awful. She now has a Dyson.
Dyson are the best for vacuum cleaners, I think. The original model is far superior to later ones. When you have a dog you need the best. : )
PS
And their service people are great. When we complained about the newest model not being as good as the original defunct one we had in the loft, they sent an engineer to fix the old one.

My wheels fell off too and finally it blew up, just 1 month after the warranty expired. I got a new cylinder Vax now which is great.. so far
why do you keep buying the same brand if it is so crap? lol

I'm not going to argue. The last machine I bought I used less than a dozen times before it went to the resale store.
