Do you agree that words are only words and it's the context that makes them good or bad? Or are some words just bad, no matter what the meaning is?

I watched a George Carlin show not long ago and he was talking about that. I agree with him...words are just words. It's the underlying meaning that matters.

I agree with Carlin. My daughter is tired of people calling the middle finger the bad finger. She wants no bad parts on her. So now we call it the Snappin' Finger. Its only words.

No, words are not only words because although you may have meant something, it is the way the person receives the message that ultimately can cause the reaction. You may intend something entirely different. Communication is a two way street.

it's the context you use them in, how well you put the words together to say exactly what you mean. this is why some people are more eloquent than others.

i believe the meaning of the words make them good or bad. it just depends on how the words were intended.

Some words are intended to be gross or to offend. They are the first ones a kid learns in any new language, so he can be gross and offensive.

i agree completely. however, it still is at least a tiny bit offensive whenever you say a bad word.
