My monitor will stay on when I plug in the computer for about three seconds and then it clicks off. The light on the keyboard indicates that it is asleep. So I went thru the steps of checking out each part to see if that was it but it still does the same. Finally I unplugged the monitor from the computer and just plugged in the power cord for it. It still does the same. It starts to get power and within 2-3 seconds the green light goes out and the power light turns amber indicating its off. When I hit the power button on the monitor it goes thru these same steps again but it never lights up. I don't know of any switch or reset button. What do you think? Is it shot or is there a way to reset it?

A monitor goes to sleep when there is no signal on the video cable, so detaching it may well just send it to sleep. Some are a little more sophisticated and can tell when the cable is detached so they can put up a test pattern.

Look at your monitor documentation to see if it should produce a test pattern when disconnected.

Try to make sure that your system is producing a signal that is withing the sync ranges of the monitor.

If you can yry the monitor on another system.
