some of the charactors are in the wrong place ie: the @ symbol is on number 2 key, the " symbol is on the @ key, and i cant find the english pound symbol anywhere, how do i sort this out? thanks

you have changed the keyboard to us English instead of British English but i cant remember how to alter it
i can now control panel/regional settings
use the drop down and select English united kingdom

Re-assign the characters using Word.
Insert, Symbol, and then re-assign the correct symbols to those matching your keyboard.

someone took the plastic off of the actual keys or it's an american keyboard instead of an english one.

Go into control panel,Click on regional and language and change to english uk

You have the American settings on instead of English.
Change your language settings.

its not set up as the English way change it from American back to english
