I saw a picture of them and i have already set up a perfect 20 gallon tank with a filter and basking ares + a uvb light any suggestions p.s. i live in Upper Darby, Pa

Illegal yes, but not impossible. Ask around for a local breeder who may have some. Or if you ever go to Chinatown in NYC, you can often find them there. The reasoning behind the ban is understandable. Many died soon after people bought them and put them in those plastic island things. As you know they live in water, not just near it. They need to swim and they need a filter.

You can't get the babies under 4in because it's illegal in US.
local pet stores and Petco or Petsmart usually have 4-5in sliders but 20 gal is a bit too small for them.

You can get them at flea markets but usually its illegal. They don't really have the best setup and the turtles could be sick since they stick so many of them in a tank. I suggest a pet store. They sell the 4-5 inch.

- In stores locally, if you can find one that is either willing to break the law or does not know it is against federal regulations (not technically a 'law', and there is little to no penalty for the buyer).

- Local breeders. Your local herpetological society would know who these are.

I found my baby RES while I was playing Minature Putt Putt. He was cruising across the green. Where there is water, maybe u will happen to come across one.
