What is the best way to descale a kettle. Mine is really bad now and I usually end up buying a new one but I don't really want to waste my money if there is nothing wrong with the one i've got now. thanks.

Go to an independant bathroom showroom or plumbers merchants or a good hardware shop they should have a product called HG descaler (haggesan). This is cheaper than products sold in the supermarkets and it works right, first time.Just follow the instructions for a smiley clean kettle! You can also use it in your dishwasher and washing machine once a month (empty of course!) and it will clear the limescale from them also resulting in much improved performances. All HG products are brilliant!

I put about a half a cup of vinegar in the kettle and fill it up put the kettle on to boil and watch it because it will boil all over the place if you don't watch it, once it has boiled let it cool for a bit then boil it again depending on how bad it is you might have to do this a few times,then empty the kettle out and boil it again with fresh water and your kettle is brand new again.

I use lemon juice in mine; buy a cheap bottle from the supermarket, leave it for a few hours mixed with a little water and then rinse.
To avoid bad limescale in future, buy a water filter jug and use the water from that to fill the kettle. When the kettle starts to scale up again, change the filter in the jug.
Tea tastes a lot nicer, too!

Squeeze some lemon juice into the kettle, then drop the lemons in there also. Then add a tablespoon of salt and a handful of ice cubes. Swirl it around for a bit. The acidity of the lemons along with the abrasiveness of the salt should clean it out.
I have also used baking soda and vinegar. It's kinda fun to watch the reaction of the combination of the two, and they clean stuff really well.

Buy a packet of Oust. They make two types one for plastic kettles and 1 for metal kettles & you get three sachets in a packet.

Lemon juice-boil the kettle with a couple of drops of lemon juice. Make sure you rinse thoroughly afterwards otherwise the next cups of tea/coffee/hot chocolate have a hint of lemon.

If it's really bad I use Lime Away. Pour it in, swish and let sit. Rinse well and do it again. When clean, wash and rinse very well to eliminate any left over chemical.
Don't let it build up next time, then you can use vinegar, or sometimes vinegar and salt to remove the scale.

Put white vinegar (cheap) in your kettle and simmer for 20 minutes or so. Rinse well and it should be as good as new!

put some white vinegar and water in there and heat it. that should help or if you want to buy descaling tablets
