I don't mean for this to sound rude, but some of the questions that get asked on here drive me nuts. People who don't get their cats vaccinated and neutered for example, because they don't know anything about it, and people that moan about their pet's behaviour when it's totally normal behaviour!
Did you do lots of reading before you got your pet? I know that I spent weeks making sure I understood cats before I got my kitten!

Eric, there's a big difference between someone who is very worried about their pet and someone who couldn't be bothered doing their research.
All they have to say is "I've read about this but I wanted other people's opinions...."
The question was not intended to be rude, and you're the only person who found it rude. Defensive much? Calm down.

I think the same as you !! Why" is a simple question that can save a millons of animals from death !!
If people get informed about illness, about feeding, etc, etc, they can prevent they died ....
Reptils are like " toys " for some of the people, thet just buy them , and then ask : what kinda of food do it must to eat ?
this is really true !!
...and then they ask : Why my reptil died? why ? becouse you boy and girl do not go to the vet to ask there this question !
Vets are the best animals friends, then you !!
Cheers, to all of you !
From Argentina .

I think sometimes it is great just to share thoughts with like-minded pet lovers...for example, my friends would not appreciate me talking about my cat's latest cute, or not so cute quirky behaviour!:-) However, I do agree that all pet owners should be made aware of the basics around vacc's and neutering..and that rescue shelters, vets and pet stores also have a duty to raise awareness.
I did read up on my pet for ages before going to the rescue shelter, however I still underestimated vets bills in Year 1! I wish I had read the part on pet insurance in more detail!
I bought an idiots guide to being a cat owner which was witty, informative and I would recommend to any new pet parent!

You are totally right! I 100% agree with you. There are too many people out there that get pets without researching and end up not being able to take care of it. That's unacceptable and I hope everyone learns to research the pet they want before getting it!

I couldn't possibly agree more.
This whole section of Yahoo Answers makes me crazy - I don't know why I come on it so often. Addicted I suppose, and a glutton for punishment. It's one thing to own a pet without the faintest idea how to look after it, but another to not even be aware that when an animal's ill you're supposed to TAKE IT TO THE VETS. The next time I see a question like 'what's wrong with my cat/dog?' I may well cry.
And yes, I did lots of reading before I got a tarantula so I would know what do BEFORE something went wrong, not during.

Yeah I agree totally.
Someone wrote in a while ago asking if rabbits ate meat!Who the heck buys a pet and doesn't find out anything about it's diet!
And don't even get me going on the MORONS who write in asking stuff like "My dog is vomiting blood what should I do?"
I mean haven't people heard of vets or are they hoping we can give them a cure so they won't have to spend the money?
I have lots of pets but I learnt about the care of all of them BEFORE I got them.

Not to be rude, but I did do my research. I agree, why wouldn't you. I sometimes have my own questions though, even after I had done research. You never know that your soon to be pet might later on have some kinda problem that you've never read about. There's million of non-basic things that should be asked. People who don't think they should get their pet neutered/spayed, just are plain out dumb. I'm kinda half on your side, but not completely.

It really worries me that people can buy a live animal and be so unprepared for the fact that it may get sick, or pregnant, or have an accident and then cost them some money to see a vet! I think a lot of people spend more time researching what car to buy, or where to go on holiday than they do thinking about the responsibility involved in keeping a live animal.
Some of the veterinary questions are scary, it makes you wonder what some of these people would do if their kid got appendicitis...

I agree. Going by some of these questions, there are a lot of people who shouldn't have pets. The ones that really get to me are (example): Help my (dog/cat/etc.) is bleeding/vomiting/not eating/etc.-what should I do?? DUH!! Take the poor thing to the vet! If they're not ready for the responsibility, don't get a pet. It's simple as that! Adopting a pet is like taking care of a child-there are many things to be considered!! I did my research also, I have two cats. If they are sick, they go to the vet. If you can't afford a vet, then it's not a good idea to have a pet.

You know what... This is an excellent question, something I wonder.. daily really.. I researched for 5.. yeah FIVE years before I bought my first dog. I knew not everything, but I knew what I was looking for, I knew what to expect, what to insist on, what to see, etc.. I read books, I talked to people, called breeders, stopped people on the street, I learned as much as possible.
I don't understand people buying something, that is going to last as long as a dog, that is going to be such a big part of your life, and not learning more before they buy one.

I'm looking for another dog and i'm doing all the research i can, i am on the web looking for info all the time. It is so easy to give in to the cuteness of the puppies and i suppose sometimes people don't think about what they will be like when they grow up or even how they are going to be in there home.
