Hasn't been proven either way.
That group of photos of him and a friend (says it was his brother or something like that) frolicking on the beach wearing speedos last year would help fuel the rumor.
Let's consider - if he turns out to be gay, his recording career would but pretty much over (think George Michael). Women who were drooling at the site of him wouldn't be drooling any longer.
Think of Neil Patrick Harris. Now that he is OUT how many people will be able to still see him as a womanizer on "How I Met Your Mother". After a while not to many I would think.
That is why a lot of actors who were considered leading men in films "come out" late in their career (especially after they retire) because at that point they have nothing to lose career-wise. Richard Chamberlain is a perfect example (lots of rumors during his acting career), George Takei (Sulu from Star Trek) is another.

EVERY celebrity is rumored to be gay at some point in their career. It doesn't necessarily mean anything.

As far as i know, his closet is out of reach for the media, so we cannot say for sure if he is gay or not :-P
