You "could" but petroleum jelly is liquid repellent. Your tampon definitely wouldn't work as well. I'd suggest you purchase "slim" sized tampons...or OB brand. They are much easier to insert. If you DO decide to go with the petroleum jelly, DON'T coat the tampon...use it to gently coat the area of insertion (trying to avoid censorship).

Okay, Petroleum jelly is not good inside the vagina as it is not water soluble. Very bad. If you use anything, use ky jelly and only on the tip of it. They have slim tampons made by Tampax that are designed for the little ladies and they are slim design. Much easier to put in. Tell her also that she just needs to relax when doing it. It makes insertion much easier. If she stands with one foot on the toilet seat, that might make it easier. OB tampons are small if little lady doesn't mind stuffing it in as far as it will go. That way, while swimming, it won't come out. Make sure she has a bathing suit that will support anything if anything does happen. Good luck.....poor baby...lol!

I'm sorry to say this, but you might be out of luck. Petroleum jelly is really oily, greasy stuff. And have you ever noticed that when you get it on your hands, it's a real pain to wash off? That's because petroleum jelly REPELS water. So, naturally, it would repel all types of liquid, including blood. Putting petroleum jelly on a tampon would be useless, and chances are the tampon wouldn't even absorb the blood properly. If you're having that much trouble, try a smaller size tampon.

yea its okay to put a tampon in. but what you do is...Sit or stand in a comfortable position. Some women prefer to place one leg on the toilet seat or tub, while others prefer to squat down. After you find a position that is most comfortable for you, hold the tampon with the fingers that you write with. Hold the middle of the tampon, at the spot where the smaller, inner tube inserts into the larger, outer tube. Make sure the string is visible and pointing away from your body. Gently push the tampon into the opening, aiming for the small of your back. Stop when your fingers touch your body and the applicator, or outer tube, is completely inside. Once the applicator or outer tube is inside of you, use your index finger to push the inner tube (the tube where the removal string is visible) through the outer tube. This pushes the tampon into the vagina. Once the inner tube is all the way in, use your thumb and middle finger to remove the applicator or outer tube. Make sure that the string hangs outside of the vaginal opening. Later, when you are ready to remove the tampon, hold the string and gently pull it downward until the entire tampon is out. (:

no, don't use petroleum jelly. its not recommended for vaginal use. you can use KY if you have it, or try a smaller tampon or different angle. playtex gentle glide in the smallest size might be better. put one foot up on the toilet or a chair, rember to relax because tensing up will make inserting difficult. some women have different angled vaginas and 11 is a bit young for tampon use but i understand the swim practice situation. this is also something you can call the doc about, don't be shy

A lubricant will be fine, something like KY jelly. Not sure if that has petroleum jelly in it.
Best way is not to use anything. Try different positions. Aim towards tail bone. And use smallest tampon can find to start with.

I think that even if you could put petroleum jelly on a tampon without the risk of infection that it would decrease it's absorbency pretty significantly. How about trying a "teen" sized tampon with a plastic applicator?

many people use petroleum jelly as a lubricant, so it's not going to hurt you. however, it is oil based so it can bother some people. just placing some on the applicator shouldn't bother you. Instead, if you have trouble inserting them, i would just relax a little more. try lying on the floor, taking a deep breath, and breathing out as you're inserting it. that worked for me when i first had this problem.
hope this works.

I don't think that would be good considering the petroleum jelly may get on the tampon and make it so the blood doesn't abosorb. Im sure if you use a tiny bit it will be okay. I have never tried it myself but I would suggest not globbing it on.
Find out why she is having trouble inserting them, because they should be fairly easy to insert. I use Tampax Pearl, which has the slippery applicator. She should relax and put one leg up on the toilet or whatever she can.
She probably can't get it in because she is nervous.

No infection, but only coat the tip and about 1/2 inch of the side. That way it will still absorb. And read the package insert, it show diagrams on how to insert, it may look funny but it works
