Willows are very resilient trees. If you cut the branches off clean and angled so that rain water will flow off, it will be fine. You can also put the branches you cut off into a bucket of water and grow more willows. We have one in our yard that we trim every year.

yes u can and here is how This is an excellent weeping willow for small gardens - usually grown to a height of 5-6 feet. It has a weeping form of grey sallow (Salix cinerea) grafted on to a long straight stem. It is readily available from large garden centres and is best planted in late winter in frost free conditions.Pruning is best carried out in the winter.
Step 1: Prune back any shoots coming off the main stem - these will not be of the weeping variety.
Step 2: Prune any dead branches or branches that are rubbing - these rub wounds allow disease to enter the tree. Prune the branch back to its parent branch leaving a stub of a few millimetres.
Step 3: Every 4 or 5 years prune the branches four fifths of the way back to the main stem - This will allow plenty of young growth and it is only young growth that has a profusion of catkins.
i hope i helped

I have a huge willow in my yard it is beautiful and I love it.. A family tree. When you say trim it do you mean just the leaves that hang to the ground? I don't like the leaves on my willow to be trimmed, I think they look better left to grow.. But if they grow to the point that they lay on the ground I trim them back or the lawn mower will cause damage.. other wise I don't trim.. From article below; Willow Tree Pruning A young tree should be pruned to develop a strong central leader. Once the tree matures its drooping fronds can touch the ground and can be pruned to allow a clearing under the tree if desired. Dead or broken branches are removed during pruning. Willow tree pruning helps promote healthy growth and balance the wood of this soft wood tree. Any suckers, growing from soil floor to trunk, stress the tree and need to be removed.

If there are any of the branches that are near any power lines, the city you live in will do it for free, or at least they do here in the Nashville, TN area.
You can prune a weeping willow, anything can be pruned, even a bonsai tree. If it has limbs, it can be cut. I'd call in a professional though, it would be such a mess to it by oneself.

You can prune most types of willows, including weeping willows, from Autumn to early spring. Remove dead wood in summer. Don't prune the leader. Young plants form a strong leader with smaller horizontals, try to train the leader as a standard. As it grows the leader will start to dissappear and the crown will broaden. Then the next season you'll see the new leader show up (a single whippy shoot that rises above the others) then the whole process repeats. Just work on training the leader to where you want it. (A great and handy book is the Cavendish Encyclopedia of Pruning and Training.)

Maintenance needed to remove fallen twigs when planted in high traffic area. Prune dead and damaged wood anytime of year.

Pruning is both an art and a science. While there are preferred times for pruning, one can prune anytime the tools are sharp. If you prune anything that appears diseased, dip the pruner in denatured alcohol and burn it off before making the next cut.

Weeping willow trees will grow very fast if they have an adequate supply of water. You can trim it back or prune it, but it will grow back a lot faster than most other trees.
