Mammals have a complex central nervous system. We are social creatures. Naming offspring gives emotional attachment as well as serving a practical purpose. "Hey, Josh!" is more likely to be more inviting and more useful than "Hey, kid!"

We name our offspring, so we can tell them apart verbally. We want out offspring to have there own individual identity.

Dr Seuss wrote a little story about that which starts:
"There once was a woman called Mrs. McCave
who had 23 sons, and she named them all Dave.."
It makes a strong argument.

So we have something to yell at them specifically when they've broken something or left their room a mess, things like that.
