For example the masacare at Wounded Knee, or the killing of innocent pioneers by the Mormons, or the endless car bombs by the IRA in Ireland, the attacks by Israel shortly after WWII.

Great answers. So how do you fight a war on terrorism? it seems random and only part of the time waged by an army or a country and more by individuals and small groups. So are the IRA terrorists? If yes, why are they allowed to be elected with USA support in Ireland but when Hammas wins a free election we do not accept it.

The earliest one that I actually remember? Y'know, I think it was actually the Patty Hearst kidnapping. Either that or the attack on the Olympics - can't remember exactly which one was first. Both were in the early 70's, & I didn't watch the news much as a kid.
Looked it up: The Black September (Palestinian Terrorist group) attack on the Munich Olympics was a year or two before the Hearst Kidnapping, so that's the earliest one I actually remember.
