Great answers. So how do you fight a war on terrorism? it seems random and only part of the time waged by an army or a country and more by individuals and small groups. So are the IRA terrorists? If yes, why are they allowed to be elected with USA support in Ireland but when Hammas wins a free election we do not accept it.

The earliest I can recall is the Iranians taking American hostages in the embassy. I was alive, but just a baby when the Munich Olympics massacre occured.

The earliest one that I actually remember? Y'know, I think it was actually the Patty Hearst kidnapping. Either that or the attack on the Olympics - can't remember exactly which one was first. Both were in the early 70's, & I didn't watch the news much as a kid.

Looked it up: The Black September (Palestinian Terrorist group) attack on the Munich Olympics was a year or two before the Hearst Kidnapping, so that's the earliest one I actually remember.

I remember the Olympics in Mexico City, 1968, and the Olympics in Munich, 1972, both of which suffered terrorist attacks.
