I think that some people are just there for the weather and all the sites and shows.

Don`t forget not everyone wants to gamble, their there to have fun in the sun.

Plus if you go to see some of the shows in Vegas it get`s quite expensive, it`s not cheap.

There is plenty to do in this town. Non-gamblers can consider Vegas like any of dozens of other vacation spots. There's shows, spas, clubs, pools, museums, thrill rides, natural and man-made wonders, and all sorts of attractions, many of them completely free.

The hotels do some truly amazing things with the money the gamblers leave behind. When it comes to major hotel-casinos, there's no such thing as boring old "interior decorating"... when you have millions of dollars to spend, it's more like "set design". No other place in the world has as many impressively designed properties in one five mile stretch. The Chihuli ceiling in the Bellagio lobby, the canal running through the mall at the Venetian, the garden paradise near the entrance to Wynn, the aquarium near the front desk of Mandalay Bay, the Eygptian god statues gracing the Luxor... and the list goes on and on.

I live in Vegas and most of my friends and family do not gamble, but they still thoroughly enjoy visiting this town.

As far as "why spend the money"... .well, they're spending a helluva lot less than the gamblers are =).

Thanks for paying my state taxes, btw, I appreciate it.

There are olots of other attractions in Vegas besides gambling. There's the food at ridiculously cheap prices in some buffets, great bars, great hotels jsut to look and sightsee in, and great nightlife without gambling.
Most of the hotels have pools and some have spas. Some have slides for the kids to use in the pools (like the Flamingo).
Then you can go to Hoover Dam and spend an entire day there.
You can see stars in shows at most hotels. You can see circus acts round the clock almost at Circus Circus!
Need I go on?

Why go all the way to Vegas to gamble? Everyone gambles and takes a risk all day daily wherever they are! I lost more money the past two years doing other things and messing with the IRS than I've ever did gambling in Vegas. People go to Vegas for the nice weather, shows, and to have a great time.

Interesting question... I personally enjoy a little recreational gambling when I hit Vegas, which is fairly often. However, there are a lot of people who go to vegas for other reasons. They may go for the cheap hotel meals, although the day of the $2.99 steak and lobster is a thing of the past. They may go for the sightseeing on "The Strip".. watch a volcano erupt or see the sinking of a pirate ship... over and over and over. They may go for the entertainment... Las Vegas attracts a lot of big name entertainers (Tom Jones, Elton John, etc..) as well as a bunch of production shows (late shows are topless) and Cirque d' Soleil style shows as well. My personal opinion is that they go for one reason, and one reason alone... LIBERACE MUSEUM!

1. It's cheap to get a package there.
2. It's a great place to people watch.
3. It's got world class hotels and shows.

Because sight-seeing 'IS" something to do and something that people enjoy. I like going to Vegas to take photos of the neon at night as well as enjoying the many fine dining options available in such a small area.

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. That's why I like going to Vegas. There are way more things to do then just gamble.

My god sons live there. That's enough for me.

Seeing my god kids gets a thumbs down? Someone needs perspective in their life.
