Ruth,
Good question, I know that other nations aren't innocent or naive in their intentions but the chimp led US has a track record of being the bully and picking fights instead of diplomacy.

Condi was trained as an expert in US -- Russian relations during the Cold War. If the Cold War can be reactivated, then she could be a valuable negotiator after her retirement as Secretary of State. I don't suspect that she is planning this however, things may work out that way for her

What I really suspect is that Condi is not the actual decision maker and that she is taking marching orders from Cheney or another prominent neoconservative -- and that THEY want to restart the Cold War. Remember, conservatives are reactionaries at heart and they love to live in the past.

The system in question will not have nearly the capacity to stop a Russian attack even with what they have now, and everybody (except libs) know that. It will, however be able to stop a small attack from the likes of Iran or a terrorist group. If the Russians are so afraid of this then why don't they respond in kind and put up a missile shield in Cuba? We would actually welcome it.

We already know bush likes to play chicken...we saw that by his service protecting Texas from the North Vietcong Air Force...by the way, I love the Republican argument, we supported Bush's service and not Kerry's because Kerry's was staged...Yet at least Kerry's was staged where the battle was taking place, not in Alabama

Oh, brother! When will Liberals wise up to what is going on in the world!

Here's an idea, just once in awhile look to the other guy as the trouble-maker, rather than automatically assuming the worst about your own nation.

Russia cannot just get away with selling arms to Iran.

If we dont stop them from arming the Iranians we could be in deeper trouble. Putin is no fool and just like during the Cuban missel crisis they will blink and back down but only if we call their bluff

Yes they have nukes- and that is the reason why such a step is necessary. Russia is powerful. Soviet Union is not there any more but Russia has not disappeared...

yeah but the Russians want to use them as little as we do. but devloping them, and buying them does put a hefty bankrole of taxpayer money into the pockets of weapon makers. not to mention boosting the economy as far as purchase of raw materials to make them.

So we should let Putin decide where we put DEFENSIVE missiles, and we should not put them in countries that WANT them?
