In jr hi and high school when I was that young, all boys used a common, open locker room and shower, while the girls supposedly had individual shower stalls, for some reason. Has that changed? Do most boys' locker rooms have individual shower stalls and more privacy now?

So many of the "comparison" questions asked here, regarding "size" and stage of development, seem like they would be easily answered if boys actually saw each other in the locker room on a daily basis. I wonder if they're missing out on that learning experience these days, that we used to take for granted "back in the day." We always noticed the differences, of course, but we also saw others at the same stage as ourselves so we were never pre-occupied with whether we were "normal." Nor did we have an opportunity to exaggerate our development. Has that changed?

I don't think the difference has anything to do with showering arrangements. But developing guys now have easy access to kinds of porn which used to be considered shameful. And the porn makers have access to digital techniques that can make actors' penises look two or three times their actual size. So the teen boys see these supposedly real penises on porn sites, and they look down and think their perfectly normal equipment is seriously substandard. I think that totally unreal porn fantasies account for most of the "is my penis big enough?" questions that get asked fifty times a day.

Unfortunately we can't go back to having to sneak a look at Playboy for our thrills. Porn is omnipresent, and immature boys don't have the self-control to leave it alone.

In schools, girls still usually have closed showers, this has more to do with the fact that teenage girls don't want a string to be seen hanging between their legs or others to see them showering with their undies on.

In "public" places, like say a pool, showers are open for the ladies to, there might be one closed one tucked away.

The boys are usually left hanging out on their own. Yes, it's still usually the same.

hey, dude, i can't really answer your question since that was for me "back in the day" also. but i have to agree with the bulk of what you're saying. i'll also say that i didn't feel all that uncomfortable undressing around other guys. it was just something we all did. i do agree with you that a lot of guys on here seem to have the strangest hangups about size and development...........guess reading has it's advantages. and we didn't even have internet back then; we actually had to crack a book open.

Good point, Maple. Besides the special fx, porn makers also pay top dollar for guys and gals with "over-sized" equipment. All very unrealistic. And makes the "lesser endowed" believe they won't be acceptable to a future partner. Very sad.

Showering in the same space as my peers never bothered me, even if they where bigger or smaller nobody really commented. Nowadays in the UK schoolboys don't get to shower after games etc in case someone is watching.

I'd guess that asking anonymous strangers is less embarassing then staring at your friends penis in the shower. Let alone asking them how big it is erect.
