If you are just looking for programming tasks, why not check out some of the projects at SourceForge and see if there are any projects/tasks that are of interest to you. It wouldn't be a paid position but if you are looking for a learning opportunity and a way to possibly build a reputation, this is an option. It could also look pretty impressive on a resume as long as you aren't looking to work at a company that tends to think open source software is a bad thing.

the best way to learn is in my opinion is get into a job as a trainee or take up some voluntary job use ur existing knowledge of computers and then buy a book and go thru the book also. what i mean is learn ur programming subjects hands on in a work atmosphere. u'll have ppl to help u when u r stuck (friends or some one). other thing is ur have real programs to work out so what u read from the book will be properly used.
all the best. hope this is of use to u.

Go to your local book store, and buy a book about programming. I'd recommend Visual Basic or Java for a beginner, then moving on to C++ once you get the hang of it. There's too much involved for somebody to teach you everything through the internet, especially at Y! Answers.

wanna learn to program, here is way to do it. go to the link listed below and begin learning on their tiered track. I understand you are looking to stay around but find someone who is willing to take you on as a beginner. Whether it is a help desk position or whatever you can get. then once you are working it is easier to find work you really want to do. That is how I did it. Never sell yourself short and use the MS tutorials over and over again to build sites or applications to understand how to code. this is a good place to start.

Learn programming on the web. Start off with HTML, and Javascript and learn how to program Web browsers. After that learn how to program web servers. Asp.net is big but I would also learn php and linux server programming.

Good luck

Your best bet would be to find an open source community to write code for. It will keep your skills sharp. Good luck.
