You know what would be great? Let Sandy Berger come on ,pull the doc out of his draws and hand it to Dan Blather to read.

Maybe.

If it was blatently false, they wouldn't run it, but I'm not so sure they would go out of their way to test a document that made a Republican look bad.

But if you had a document that made a Dem look bad, they would check it out left, right, up & down, hoping to find something to disprove it. Or they would just ignore it claiming it wasn't really news-worthy.

* EDIT * The National Guard documents were NOT an "obvious" forgery. But they didn't work to hard to check it out, did they?

If you gave them a copy and not the original. Would you come back in 3 months and say "That is not a document that's a COPY"
