Canada and the USA share many interests ranging from trade to military cooperation, yet they are historically and politically very different. While American history and politics is marked by aggressive pursuit of independence and access to foreign markets and resources, Canada has established itself as a less ambitious world power seeking leverage through cooperation with other countries. Canada chooses the international role of a broker rather than an aggressor, thus is generally not perceived by other countries as a threat.

While the USA would benefit greatly from exploitation of the abundant Canadian natural resources, Canada has nothing to gain from officially becoming a part of the USA. It is already well integrated within the North American market economy and security network; in addition its citizens, unlike the Americans, enjoy free healthcare in most provinces and territories, and greater access to more comprehensive social programs.

I would like to believe that Canadians would not be able to blindly sit around while our government jeopardizes the security of the world because of foreign policies pushed forward by ‘Big Businesses’. But hey, give it time, the USA is actively pushing their way in, taking control of as many businesses as possible! Soon we will be like so many other countries. We will have our ‘sovereignty’ but have no control over our natural resources or destiny. It will belong to the USA to do as they please!
And when we fight too loudly for what is ours the ‘Romans’ will label our country as a threat to them…and then what?
They have the biggest ‘Stick’.

I guess I could handle becoming sanctimonious, war-mongering, obnoxious, conceited, arrogant, hated in most of the civilized world, never being able to travel abroad without fear of being killed because of my nationality, losing my house because of a serious illness, being forced into the military(I volunteered), only having 2 choices when I vote, paranoid and self-righteous. But you make lousy beer. Never happen and needing 4 downs to go 10 yards instead of 3 like real men, I shudder at the thought. lol

Heads would roll in Parliament, Canadians still have control of there government and have demonstrated time and time again that they want nothing to do with Bush.

Oh Yeah... Take off Hosers.
