We met at an apartment party. I saw his bright blue eyes and blond hair right away. But I had to listen to what he was saying in conversation to others to be sure he wasn't just another pretty face. He was so well-spoken, obviously educated that I found a way to become part of the conversation. That was it. Been together ever since. We knew we wanted to be married when we both realized that we couldn't possibly imagine life without each other in it. That was 16 years ago and we still believe that.

We were both REALLY easy going and just enjoyed our friendship.
I think we knew we would spend the rest of our lives together after he spent 3 months overseas with his work. We were away for each other, and it really brought us closer than every before. I should mention we had been dating 18 months when he left.
We've also worked on our communication skills and relationship. Life is too short to depend on fighting on the little things to get through everything.

My husband and I met in the military. We worked together and both lived in the dorms. There were a lot of parties and drinking back then... somehow he and I always ended up in the corner talking. Before we even realized it, the sun was coming up and everyone had gone to bed. Sometimes our conversations were pretty heated debates about bigger life issues and sometimes just talking about the day to day frustrations of being in the military. I was really drawn to the fact that he wasn't afraid to argue with me. I like a man that knows who he is and can hold is own in an intelligent debate.
I don't know how I knew he was the one for me... But I knew I didn't want to be alone anymore and he seemed like the logical choice.

I was just getting out of a really crappy relationship when i met my husband. I don't know what it was but i knew that moment that was the man i wanted for the rest of my life. I loved the way he was an old fashioned gentleman and opened my car door or pulled out my chair for me, he always tries to treat me like a princess and although there are things we have to work on together i still know that i love him with all my heart 14 years later. And he always tries to make me laugh when i am sad or hurting.

We had known each other growing up. Our sisters were friends. We reconnected in high school on the school bus of all places. He says he looked at me and he just knew. I knew after we'd been together for awhile - when time apart just killed us both and we couldn't wait to be together again. That's when I knew.
6 years and 3 kids later, we're still together.
Been together 10 years (6 of those married)

This is a great question and I think everyone should think about this question every day - marriage isn't easy. I mean it is a challenege at any point in time but if you always remember what brought you together I think you can conquer most obstacles.
In my situation my husband is strong and independent, I think back then when we met I wanted to believe he was my knight - now I know he just compliments what I am and we work well together.

We met in high school, used to play basketball together in gym class, but were just friends. 6 years later he found me on classmates.com, we started writing back and forth, decided to meet up for dinner and we just clicked. Had so much in common and similar things we wanted out of life.
I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him when I couldn't see myself with anyone else. Through the good and bad, I knew I wanted to be with him forever.

Met my husband at the gym ( I was there with my friend, who knew him, and he was there with his friend, who I knew) and we went out that weekend. He loved my hair and the fact that I was easy to talk to; I thought he was hot and he made me laugh. But we just connected. We always said we would date for at least a couple years before getting married; we were engaged after 9 months. Now we've been married 5 years and have gone through a lot, including the death of our only child, but it's only made us stronger.

We met on the internet back when it was called IRC. We were in University. I fell in love with his mind first. When we met for real, I fell head over heels for the rest of him. We were married 6 months later. That was over 11 years ago.
