Yuck, but I believe it is. Hamsters are cannibalistic. I had a hamster eat her babies. It was gross.

I can confirm that hamsters are omnivores, which means their natural diet consists of meat and vegetation. Obviously they are small animals so they're not going to be bringing down deer or anything - they come from desert regions and therefore the natural protein source in their diet is insects.

It would not be unnatural for a hamster to eat meat if offered it. Ideally a hamster should be fed on proper hamster mix only, with veg occasionally offered (not more than every other day and no soft fruits, you need to avoid them having diarrhoea because it is quickly fatal).

I really hope you're feeding your hamster proper hamster mix from a petshop and not putting meat in its cage all the time!!

yeah its normal. Hamsters eat insects in the wild, just dont make it the main part of his diet. Make sure he is fed mainly on the basic hamster food sold in pet stores with a little fresh fruit and veg. If you feed him meat only give him chicken or ham that is thourouly cooked.

Yes it's normal...Hamsters are opportuneists...they eat what they can, when they can. They will eat meat if it is given to them, or if they get crowded, they will eat cage mates, or if a cage mate dies of natural causes, they will eat them too....

Even though they do it, it's not really good for them. They need a mixed diet, most of the bags of food from Pet stores are good mixes...I personally use Nutraphase for all of my small animals...

Hope this helps...GOOD LUCK!!!

Hamsters are omnivores, so they do eat meat in the wild. However, it is generally only insects that they eat (aside from the fruit and vegetables). They also are known to eat their dead and their young.

Hamsters are vegetarians, so no, this is not normal.Perhaps your hamster is storing the meat in his cheek pouches??I am puzzled.
