Yes, this was before unleaded gas and cataylic converters. The only thing your mach 1 would have on the motor would be a A.I.R. pump, belt driven to inject air into the exhaust manifolds.( Air Injection Reaction) While not sure of the local laws I believe that your car would still be o.k. because of the age of the vehicle. No, they are NOT exempt from having smog equipment, they are exempt from biennial smog testing. Although you do not have to test your car every two years, you still are required to maintain the original emissions equipment. Only 1965 and older are "exempt" from the smog check program. People often misunderstand that you are exempt from "testing" not exempt from "smog equipment" (even though nobody really checks for them).
