Normally, homeowner insurance covers the damage the leak did (clothes, furniture, drywall, carpet, etc. (minus the deductible) not the repair of what caused the leak.

That is one for your Agent. Only he can tell you what kind of policy you bought. Some times the deductible will make it not worth doing, and sometimes it falls under "disclosure" on your title insurance.

A good agent will advise you without causing your rates to go up.

If it is just your roof going bad, then your insurance will not apply. You have to maintain your roof, because the shingles do wear out overtime. As a matter of fact, I have to put a new one on my place, next month.

if there was roof damage due to a severe storm with hail or it took down a tree that fell onto your roof then all you will have to pay is the deductible otherwise you are gunna have to foot the bill yourself. sorry

Call your insurance agent and ask. I would say that it probably will not be covered. It's probably a leak casued by something deteriorating over time, which is generally not covered. But hey...call and ask. It can't hurt.
