It definately depends on the artist, I think. Some musicians are reallllly talented with created their music (i.e. Jimi Hendrix), but then there are just some songs where I think the lyrics are what makes it, and the singers don't make their own music (to my knowledge, at least) so its the lyrics that are the focus. The best example I could think of where lyrics are what matters are songs like "my humps" by the black eyed peas. Listen to the background music - not that exciting - because that's all it is, background music.

Lyrics. I liked the music of "This Is Why I'm Hot" but the lyrics, ugh.
I get more attracted to songs too, if I find the lyrics quite awesome.

Well they both have value of course. And both can stand on its own merit. There are wonderful instumental pieces as well as a cappella pieces. So I am not sure one is really MORE important than the other. However, there are many songs where the music moves me more than the lyrics do and vice versa, so if you really wanted to choose which is more important, I think it would have to be on a song by song basis more so than an overall generalized statement.

For me, it's lyrics. If a song doesn't mean anything to me, I won't usually like it as much as a song that has strong lyrics... I'll say the lyrics, or think of how they apply to me and my life.
Because of that, I enjoy all sorts of music, from hard rock, metal, pop, rap, hip-hop, country, soft rock, folk, and more. If the lyrics speak to me, I'll enjoy the song. Even if a song has a fun beat but the lyrics don't make sense, I won't like the song enough to buy it.

If you're talking about song,
Then it's Music, because a lyrics without music is poetry.
And you can't understand some lyrics in some songs but some people still enjoy it.
But in the steps of making a song, writing the words comes first than composing the music.
but I still vote for music! :D

A truly good song needs to have a good mix of both; however, I am more of a lyrics person because I enjoy singing song lyrics out loud.

Well they are both important. The song would be very dull with no lyrics, but with no music and just lyrics, does not even sound like a song.

If I REALLY had to choose (which I'd rather not) I'd say music, because you can always hum to the song or put in your own lyrics. though both are so essential in songs unless your referring to classical or instrumental pieces. ;-)
