If you could steal, or found a bag of a million dollars and knew for a fact that you could get away with it. No one would ever find out, or anything incriminating would ever happen. Would you keep it?

IF you could?? IF it came from a stingy filthy rich man's account, i'd be glad to, and would have no qualms about trying for more. A billionaire will definitely not go hungry losing a couple of loose change in his account; he'd still be dining steak or lamb chops or whatever it is rich people eat.

Of course, that wouldn't happen. But thumbs down does happen.

The problem would be where would you turn it in? Do you run an ad in the newspaper and announce that you've found a million dollars? Do you trust the police? Theoretically, if you turn in a found item and no one claims it within a certain amount of time, it's yours. Do you really believe the police would call you and say, "Okay, come get your money"?

I would have a hard time keeping it, though, even if I thought no one probably knew I found it. People would certainly notice a change in my spending habits. I would lay awake thinking that it could be from a bank robbery, and if I spent it, they might have the serial numbers recorded, and I could get blamed for the robbery. Or it could be drug money, and I could have these gangsters after me. Or it could be counterfeit, and I could get arrested for that.

Who am I kidding? I would change my name and move to a quiet little town and live comfortably for the rest of my life.

I have to agree with LittleBarb. If I found some change, I'd figure the person that lost it probably didn't miss it and it wasn't worth the effort to find them, but a significant amount of money like that, I simply couldn't keep. It would make me someone I am not.

Also, just who do you think that money might belong to in the first place? Are they likely to report the loss to the police, or more likely to conduct their own investigation? If they decided you had it, how might they persuade you to return it?

that money obviously belonged to SOMEONE.... the RIGHT thing to do would be to turn it into the police..... I DO believe there is some written law somewhere that if you find something and turn it into the police that if NO ONE CLAIMS it in a certain amount of time (maybe 30 days), then it would all go to YOU legally... if someone DOES claim it- - - THAT much money at one time someone would have a record of the serial numbers on the bills and if they could PROVE the money was theirs, then you PROBABLY would be given a heafty reward for turning the money in...... OH here's the bad part of that---IF the money was part of some sort of robbery--a bank, armored car etc... then the money would become evidence in the case and you might NOT see any of the money---but, whomever it was taken FROM would still probably offer you a big reward after the case was over... and even if they did NOT give you a reward---you would be able to walk with your head held HIGH because you did the RIGHT THING

Steal never. find an untraceable bag of money keep, Uncle Sam would keep it otherwise and he takes enough money from people. Found a $100.00 in a custome made wallet and turned it in to city police, was told that if no one claimed it after 90 days it was mine. then after 90 days they had no record of the money!

I'd post an ad in the paper that I found something and if a person could tell me what I found, then I would give it to them. If nobody got it right after about a month, I would proceed to spend!

I would want to keep it, but I think my conscience would get the best of me. I'd feel bad about keeping someone elses money, especially if it was hard earned.

If I found it yes. Just being honest here. But I probably would be afraid to spend any of it.
