It is very dangerous and shouldn't be done. I have a cousin that just was seriously hurt while driving and talking on the cell phone on a needless conversation. The Governor of New Jersey was nearly killed cause his driver was sending a text email while driving at 91 MPH. It is time we showed more sense behind the wheel.

Like a lot of things, some people can handle it, and other people can't. By no means should it be made illegal...If someone is driving in a careless manner because of a cell phone, than give them a careless driving ticket. There are already enough laws on the books chipping away at liberty.

You can only focus on one thing well at one time. It's not possible to focus on your driving as well as you should if you are on a cell phone. Even the hands free devices detract from your attention on the road. I saw a lady in the grocery store knock over a display case while talking on her cell phone. She just wasn't paying attention. Wouldn't you love to be on the freeway with her?

I think it is EXTREMELY dangerous and that there should be a law in EVERY state prohibiting handheld cellphone calls. I think it's ok to talk on the phone as long as it is on a hands free system.
The BEST bumper sticker I've EVER seen said:
"Could you drive better with that phone shoved up your a**?"
I laughed so hard, I had to RUN to the bathroom when I got home. LOL LOL

I think it is dangerous. No matter what most people think, it is difficult to hold a conversation on a cell phone while driving, and also be aware of what is going on around you.

I have been run off the road more than once by people talking and driving at the same time. It is dangerous.
The two times that I was run off the road, the people who did it, never looked back and they certainly didn't stop to see if I was alright.

It needs to be greatly curtailed, if not outlawed.
I have no idea why some people think a hands-free phone somehow enables drivers to concentrate on two things at once. It's the conversation that's distracting, not the fact that one hand is on the phone.

Transportation Dept studies have shown that some drivers who talk and drive are distracted and are almost as dangerous as drunk drivers.

It is illegal in England unless you have a proper hands-free device permanently installed in your car and you use it
