No, uniforms are:
1) Another hurdle to place in the way of poor families who are simply trying to get by and educate their kids.
2) Farcical in the sense that people claim that they place everyone on the same setting. It's a nonsense argument because there will always be something that allows kids to differentiate socio-economic classes. Whether the distinction is found in the parking lot, homes, or parental professions, if economic dictions will be made, there is no way to stop it.
3) They stymie individual development and force adolescents to act out and go over the top on the weekends to differentiate themselves.
4) There is no hard evidence that is generally accepted that ties uniforms to improved behavior.

I do not agree. There is no proof that students perform better when forced to wear the same thing. I also believe it takes away a child's individuality - and causes undo abuse of power for administrators.
Edit: Just because people are wearing the "same" clothes does not mean comparisons to where each other bought their clothes and how much they cost will stop. A white shirt from Wal-Mart costs less and probably isn't made as well as a shirt from the Gap is. Kids, and adults alike, know these differences, and will continue to compare each other because of them.

Yes, uniforms have changed our school and helped us academically. Students no longer stop in the halls to ask each other about clothes. Students who can't afford new clothes don't stand out. It is easy to see students on campus and know they belong in class. And in class no more problems with girls exposing boobs, or those awful low pants with thongs showing. Boys can't wear baggy pants and 'sag' with underwear showing. both genders are no longer showing any undergarments. No distractions for other students, and none for teachers either. I hated telling a girl to cover up, and even worse to try and get a boy to 'pull up his pants'. It eliminates a lot of problems in schools. It is not expensive for our uniforms and now, after a year, students are glad to not have to 'keep up' with trends. It allows everyone to focus on education.

I agree that there should be uniforms only because it would
cause a certain equality between all the students. The kids
who aren't rich wouldn't be picked on for not wearing the
newest trends or because they wear the same clothes
every week.

I agree. Kids should also start school like at noon. Like other countries like in Mexico there are two schedules. Some kids go in the morning others in the afternoon. All the incidents like rape, drug use, kidnappings happens right before or after school when most parents are working and kids are home alone or walking home. If we change the schedule. Parents or guardians are going to be home for thier protection. Right?

i dont believe in that for more discipline. i believe there should be uniforms because of the problems kids have in school. for example we have hollister fags and then the kids who would buy cheap old clothes because they cant afford it. i think everyone in school should b the same that way the hollister fags are picking on kids like the guy who did the shooting at V. tech. kids need to grow up and realize fashion isnt everything that makes up a person. its pathetic!

I think in one way it would solve a lot of problems with kids being disliked because they don't wear the expensive clothing brands. Gangs won't be able to wear their colors in school, so they won't know which gang member is who. I think kids won't have such low self esteem when it comes to do you think the person likes me because of what I am wearing...There could be a lot of plus's to uniforms. But remember kids can do different things with the uniforms to make themselves stand out. But it would be a great start to get violence out of schools.

yes, because that put's every student at the same level peer wise. not every family can afford to send their chidren to school in expensive sneaker's and clothes. it would cut down on alot of clicks and the less fortunate children would feel more like they fit in!
