Can you really catch up on sleep or is it better to always go to bed and wake up the same time no matter how tired you are?

you are right, it is not possible to catch up on sleep. It is, however, possible to set a regular pattern of sleep that will refresh you. You sign yourself as a new mom. That means you are likely up with the baby alot. So, you nap when the babe naps, and you are up when the babe is up, that is your duty. Enjoy these times, they will pass so fast. Soon enough the child will begin sleeping thru the night, and that is when you must set the same pattern and sleep when the child sleeps.

Well, I know the experts say that you can't catch up on sleep, but I personally believe that I do. I am a licensed home day care provider and I get up at 6 am on weekdays and go to bed between 10 and 11 pm. On the weekends I usually get to sleep in til about 9 or 10 am and I feel so much better after that and ready to take on another week.

You can never REALLY catch up on sleep. But if like me you get up during the week at five try and plan it so that on the weekend you can sleep in, a little. Don't sleep till noon and then expect to be able to get to sleep at eight that night. Set up a reasonable routine and try to stick to it.

What I have always read is that you cannot catch up on sleep. If you miss sleep, just try to resume your normal schedule.

Different people have different sleep needs and your needs change as you age.

Sure you can! But it takes 2 days for your body to realize that your'' inner normal sleep time 'has been fullfilled.
Sleep is a basic restorative process and you can rebuild, re-oil and tune up that engine.
