Cutting out is a little vague...
Besides, it's French. It only works 30 hours a week and gets 8 weeks off every year!!

Oh man, scrap it? Come on!!
I loved my Renault - well, it's wasn't REALLY mine, it was my parents, but I loved that baby. Did you know that a shipment of Renaults was on the Titanic? Cool, huh? I wish I knew more about cars or I'd help you out. Goodluck!

If the engine management light has come on then its 1 of your ignition coils. These go regularly. 3 of mine have had to be replaced recently just waiting for the 4th. They cost approx £40 each but a garage will charge about £70 fully fitted including resetting of the fault light

That would suggest two possibilities:
1. There is a problem with your Renault
or
2. There is a problem with your driving.
A little more detail would have been helpful
What model? What engine? How old? Petrol or Diesel? Regularly serviced or not? Under what driving conditions does it cut out?
