My fiance and I love the feel of bare skin during sex. So we found this thing over the counter. its a pill that you insert and wait at least 10 mins. its a spermicide and stops sperm by creating a foam barrier so it cant reach the egg. No one I know has used anything like this. Has anyone used this, or know if its good or not? I dont want to get pregnant

You should go to a health department or to a planned pregnancy center, where you can get birth control without having insurance. Also, take a look at the percentage you showed, 80% effective...honey please, if you are going to use an over the counter spermicide, try using the films or foams that are more than 80% effective....anything less than 95% effective is definately playing russian roulette! best of luck

Spermicide alone isn't a good sole method of birth control. Some sperm can still get through & survive. It's only around 70-80% effective. I'd suggest obtaining reliable hormonal birth control. THat would allow you to not use condoms, but be much more protected from pregnancy.

I saw your added details...I use to work in a low cost health clinic. We gave away birth control for free for those without insurance. Look into Planned Parenthoods & local healthy clinics. THere are options out there for you. And not to be rude, but if you can't afford pills, which you can get for as low as $25 a pack even if you have to pay for them, how can you afford medical care if you become pregnant or have a newborn? If you really cannot find a way to obtain birth control, you need to be using condoms along with the foam you're using now to decrease your chances of pregnancy.

I believe you are talking about Encare. And it is justa s good as any other spermicide on the market, it contains the same spermicide which is fund inside condoms.. I myslef didn't like the feel of it.I would go to a Dr. and get an IUD if not the Nuva ring..If would help you avoid all the mess and very effective form of birhtcontrol.

Its better than nothing, but a spermicide by itself isn't very effective. They are best used with a condom. The box should tell you what the effectiveness is. I think its about 70% effective. If you don't want to get pregnant then the pill is better because used correctly it is 99% effective. Spermicides don't protect you from STD's though so unless you are in a long term monogamous relationship you should really stick with condoms.

It is a spermicide. They are good used in combination with a condom or diaphragm, since they reduce the chances of any accidents, but they are a very poor method if used alone (it has 20% failure rate).
If you really do not like condoms, try taking the pill, using another hormonal method, or an IUD.
Or be prepared to deal with an abortion or with having a kid.

You should ask the pharmacist at the drug store about it. They know more than many doctors about new drugs and various products. Everyone is urged to use condoms for safe sex. Safe sex does not mean just to prevent pregnancy. There are just to many STDs out there not to use a condom. You or your boyfriend could be infected and not even know it. To heck with bare skin, USE A CONDOM.

It probably is somewhere around 80% effective from research that I've seen around. You should try birth control pills or an IUD if you don't want to get pregnant. They are more effective when used correctly than just spermacide.

Ive never used it before, but back in school, they taught us about diffrent types of protection during S3X. And yes, that was one of them. Im sure it works but I can gurantee its not 100%. So just becareful, you might end up pregnant eventually. Goodluck ;-)
