Well, what idea or stereotype of irish people do the medias convey, and how did St Patrick get so much importance? Are their any other event similar?
Basicly, what is the role of irish culture in usa?

Irish-Americans tend to be fiercely proud of their heritage, and many continue to support Irish music and culture.

About 1 in 6 Americans are of Irish descent - onthe second largest ethnic group (only German-Americans are more numerous, but far less culturally involved in German interests). THAT's how ST. Paddy's Day rose to prominence - first through urban celebrations where Irish settled, and later elsewhere.

Certain aspects also appeal to non-Irish: celebrating St. Paddy's Day, Riverdance, music, etc.

I don't think the media created the stereotype here.
