I just try to ignore their negativity and treat them with respect as I would any other person. =)

Oh I have one of those in my office.
What I've found works is to never join in on the complaining or whining. If you find that they are complaining about something, just say to them that you would rather not discuss it. If they persist, ask them to leave your office or if you can, walk away. If the problem continues even after you've asked them several times to leave the issue alone, report it to either your supervisor or teacher. In both school and office situations the complaining and whining could be affecting your productivity and neither your supervisor nor your teacher would like that. It is jeopoardizing your career either way.
Good luck.

Call them to the carpet in public whenever you can. See Va Tech for a bad way to deal with school frustration.

Having a super cheerfful attitude is very hard work, but it's worth it in the end. Just think how many people it will annoy!

It is my job to keep 11 antique dealers happy. I do what I can, keep still when I must, share what is relevant, hope for the best... and when all else fails....I tell them to take their toys out of my store.
