I had an 18 week ultrasound and yesterday, at 19.5 weeks had a checkup. The doctor told me that I would have to have another ultrasound at 28 weeks because a "low lying placenta" was detected. I can deal with that. I get a call from a nurse after I leave and she tells me that also in the ultrasound, they were only able to detect 3 chambers of the babys heart...they couldn't detect the 4th. i am going out of my mind with worry...it's making me sick. Has any of this happened to any of you? Have any of your babies ever been born with only 3 chambers? I need some calming words before I lose it

don't worry.....it is bad for the baby...they are checking your placenta again to make sure it doesn't get any lower and cause problems when it is time to deliver....there are a hundred reasons why they couldn't see the 4th chamber.....you are not that far along.....give it some time....the bigger they get the easier it is to see....i had four ultrasounds with my first because the left ventricle of her brain was slightly too big.....which could have been indications of severe problems......but she was born A O.K. she has a big head and is very smart but is healthy as a horse and is 3 and is driving me crazy right now........

First of all, STOP IT! Three chambers or not, there isn't anything you can do so freaking out will only make it hard on you and the baby. Secondly, the nurse said that they could only see three chambers, that doesn't mean that there aren't four. There were 15+ separate sonograms of my niece and all we ever saw was spine. My third baby (I'm at 31 weeks) was a girl for over a month before we saw the family jewels. He appeared to have skin that was too thick on the ultrasound so they said he may have Down's Syndrome. On the last ultrasound, his skin is normal, he was just cuddling the amniotic sack so it was hard to see. The nurse was looking at the images AFTER YOU LEFT. They couldn't turn you a little or move the the image around at that point so they need you to come back so they can see the other side of the baby's heart and be sure. You will have hundreds of scares in your child's life, use logic and whatever else you can (deep breathing, meditation, a paper bag) to stay calm and get through it. Good luck, lots of love.

No need to worry until there is something to worry about.

Definitely get another US done from a different clinic for the time being.

I would go have a second ultrasound by another Dror technician to make sure. Stress can't be helpful.

I have no words of wisdom for you, but I can absolutely understand your worry. I just wanted to let you know that I will be praying for you and your baby.
