I didn't winterize my gas in my boat this year. I have a force 85hp outboard and my gas tank is 3/4 full. Will that gas hurt my outboard? Or even work? Will adding fresh fuel help?

Probably it's not going to matter. There is a liquid called "wake-up" which you can get in the boat store which will replace the high volatile components of your gas that may have evaporated. Top off with new gas and go.

The gas tank is probably full of condensation ,If it is a portable tank drain all the gas out and inspect the bottom of the tank with a flashlight.
If rusty ,replace the tank.
If yours is a below deck tank try and find a tank cleaning company (look in the yellow pages or ask at a local marina).

after the tanks has been inspected/cleaned try starting the outboard with fresh gas.

If it doesn't run or runs roughly you may have varnish built up in the carbs or injectors.
To remove the varnish, go to the hobby store and get a quart of model airplane fuel.

Disconnect the primer bulb and connect it to a short piece of fuel line , stick the end into the quart of model fuel and pump until the bulb gets tight.
allow the airplane fuel to sit overnight and then remove the drain plugs from the bottom of the carbs.

reconnect the primer bulb to the gas tank and start as normal.

P.S. Add a can of "Sea Foam" to the gas to further clean the carbs or injectors. (you can find sea foam at NAPA stores.

Fuel is NO GOOD, not for the outboard anyway, drain and use it in the lawn mower, ALWAYS start with fresh fuel mix, it works the best, Fuel stabilizers will buy you just a bit more time, not much, last years fuel has "Alcohol" in it (REMEMBER), alcohol is "Hydroscopic" (attracts water). That fuel has gone "SOUR" for sure, I would just throw it out. Why screw up the motor "Big Bucks" for a few gallons of water soaked, soured fuel.

Don't use old gas in an outboard motor unless you have added sea foam or another good additive. The carbs are touchy and will gum up. I've done this before and ran the old gas through my suburban...worked fine. Good luck!!
