The best way is riding with others and having them pull you out or by using a winch. But if your not able to ride with somebody try rocking the machine to get traction. If this doesn't work if you can pick up the rear of the machine so your out of the rut and slide it over. If you can't do this and your not burried in a swamp someplace try putting branches, rocks, etc under the rear tires to get better traction. When wheeling you should try to be prepared for the worst. If you can't afford a winch.pick yourself up a cable winch puller/Come Along. They can be found for a fraction of the cost and will save your butt when your stuck.

Sounds a bit daft, how can you have a 2wd ATV? Usually to get out of mud etc in a 2wd car, use as high a gear as possible, keep the revs to a minimum, try to avoid wheelspin, and 'rock' it out, using forward and backward gears to build up momentum. If this fails, like wise, get a 4wd to tow you out!

Use a winch. They're available for quads and are a popular accessory.

Keep a tow rope with you all the time and have someone else pull you out. If nobody's around, put it in neutral and start pushing.

Rock the quad side to side while accelerating. If you are stong enough rock it so that the opposite wheel actually comes off the ground.
