If the D drive is not formatted, then there is nothing on it. Formatting it would not erase anything off it. You can do it right from the Windows Control Panel.

However, if you are not familiar with formatting a drive, please ask your favorite "geek" to help you. While it is easy, if you do it wrong you could accidently erase everything on your C drive. (Going rate today for a format is a McDonald's Happy Meal and a Mountain Dew)

One reason that the disk cant be read is that the bios does not recognize it. Windows may say that the disk is not formated.. This is because it presumes it is a new drive that needs formating so that it can be read. It could be that the jumpers have been moved. The cable could be conected wrong. Dont format it unless you check. Better to be safe. Make sure its set as the slave drive.I have a drive that does just that but if I connect it to IDE 2.. Set it as master and my dvd drive as slave it runs perfectly. With two master drives .Why it happens I have no idea. I`m running configured like that now. I use my D drive for storage only. No problem at all. Worth a try..

how many disk do you have..it could be master an slave problem( if you have more than one Disk).. if you only have one.. and just got it repaired and you do not know whats in it .. seems like you only have your OS in there.. in this case you can format it if you have the OS CD as it will erase everything.. if you have only one HD and its set up correctly and you had to format it then after you do a clean installation you can get a good data recovery software to retrieve anything in the HD.. Good Luck.

If you can't access it formatting will not harm anything. Right click the drive in my computer and just format it. It is already wiped.

Everything on your computer is on your disc!
When you format it you take everything off...BLANK!...then you have to load windows and all your software again so dont do it unless you know what you are doing.
You are accessing it all the time..like right now...it holds all your data....windows is on it. You don't need to reformat unless your system is getting messy and you can't take the spyware or virus's off it.

Who Repaired your PC ? Perhaps they cabled your PC back Incorrectly. Whom-ever did the work should be responsible if you have good material on the drive; Recovery should still be possible.
