Personally i prefer British Music as it is a lot more "real" and isn't manufactured singers who's voices are put through a computer and made to sound good. British artists have much more talent and individuality to them in comparison to America's cheap singers and bands. No offensense to all you Americans but it's true !!!

I enjoy British music and American music, why must everything be a competition though? Just enjoy the music. But anyway, all American music isn't crap. Sure, the stuff at the top of the charts is crap for the most part, but i have heard some crappy British artists as well. There has been some great music from both America and the UK, no need to compare.

British all the way!! (I'm proud to be an American but not in this respect). You forgot to mention The Zutons, Corinne Bailey Rae and The Libertines.

But there are lots of great American bands. The problem over here is not lack of talent, it's the system of DJs being paid to play worthless junk instead of real music. If you want an idea of just how many great US bands are flying under the radar, check out The Village Green, The Black Keys, The Redwalls, Cold War Kids and The Shins.

By the way, to be fair, you should also mention Queens of the Stone Age, The Raconteurs, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Strokes, The White Stripes and Sheryl Crow.

First of all thats your own point of view. It funny how people like Lilly Alan, Natasha Bedingfield, Fergie and Paris Hilton are mentioned.

secondly, it seems you are directing some aggression and bias-ness towards Americans.

Some british singers have their voices put through computer too, its part of the business. World wide american music is generally accepted but some british artist stand out (Rolling Stones, U2, Beatles).

I also think that it might be better to generalise according to category or genre. For example, hip hop (rap), american music is better.

Another point i will wanna make is if british artist are more geuine, why do alot of them copy american music style?

The American artist you have listed are not the legends or top ones, most of them are new and upcomming.

2pac, Notorious BIG, Mariah Carey, Miles Davis, Al Green, Nirvana, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Michael Jackson, R.Kelly, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Whitney Houston, Marvin Gaye..

com'mon it gotta be American overall. but thats my own view.

But hey if you like a song do you care where the artist is from? I like african music.. Fela, Canadian, some spanish, french and hispanic music. i dont give a damn if the artist if from albania or zambia.

When you put the question like that, then you have to choose british. But when you consider Jimmi Hendrix, The Doors and Jeff Buckley, and then also consider The Spice Girls, Rick Astley and Westlife then you can say American. I personally dont think one is better than the other, and im British myself. I think its just a case of judging each case by its merrits and personal opinion.

You're taken a very slim snapshot of music from both sides, picking almost exclusively mainstream pop and rock bands. I do actually agree with your conclusion, but these acts really don't illustrate the half of it, and I also contend that American acts have dominated some genres for many many years, such as metal and hip-hop, whereas British dominances is much more in esoteric styles such as ambient and various types of dance music.

its a total mix of the 2! i'm british and it sucks that all the american acts i love aren't massive in the UK....

Jason Mraz(lyrical genius), Howie Day, Gavin DeGraw

but then there is the greatness of our UK soloists like James Morrison(his voice is divine), lily allen, amy winehouse

when it comes to bands its exactly the same - Fall Out Boy, CHemical Romance, Beatles, Take That, Monkees

rappers - ok so the UK rap scene isn't as in the forefront as the US - we love our guitar bands - but there is just jack, dizzee rascal, The Streets...

people are too quick to comment, without thinking it through! all bands your have mentioned are generally great, but you've gotta remember that the biggest artists/bands of all time are british and american .....not just one country!

mix it up people...listen to both....(altho we all know that UK is better! )
