It could be argued that the person is not in their right mind and is not aware of the dangers of their decision.
If a person is declared, by a competent authority, to be insane and presents a danger to himself (or others), then the law can restrain, remov, detain, or even medicate them against their will.

You just answered your own ? Destructive! Most of those cults are into brainwashing the people to get them to stay. They usually find people who have some kind of a problem with family or fitting in somewhere and they feed on the persons problems. Telling them that they have the answers that they need to feel better.

Because cults are very good at manipulating the will of its subjects/members in such a way that they don't even know they have lost their free will.

It is CONCIDERED acceptable, because. well klook at it, common sense,
But if it is free will that they joind then sorry yor efforts are futile, cause then you'll get the whole cult after you.

I've had people try and brain wash me, that is free will to let them inside your mind.
