For ants on the counter top, wipe down counter top with white vinegar. To prevent ants from coming into the house, or getting into cupboards, sprinkle dried mint or red pepper where they are entering the house and in the cupboards. If you know where the anthills are make a mixture of 50 percent borax (sold in laundry aisle of supermarkets) and 50 percent confectioner's sugar and place near anthill. The ants are attracted to the sugar and carry the fatal borax/sugar combination back to the nest to feed the queen and other ants. Soon all ants will be dead. Do not put this mixture where children and pets can ingest it. To get rid of anthills, pour 3 gallons of boiling water down them. This is best when done when the ants are active and at the surface. Do not do it near flowers or they will die.

You should handle this like George Bush, attack them on their own turf. I have found that with most of the pest that get inside your house like flees and ants that it is usually best to put a treatment outside. I like some of the granulated products that you can put down because they dissolve slowly so you usually only have to treat once or twice a year. Check with Ace, or Lowe's and they should be able to steer you toward one that will work for your situation. There are also some products that you can buy and use with your garden hose to spray on. You may still need to invest some time and see where they are getting in from, and depending on what type of ant see if they have done any damage to your home.

I get these tiny ants ( i call em p**s ants) every darned spring. Tried the boric acid, tried all kinds of things. Only thing to keep them under control at my house is TERRO. Its a liquid poison stuff I leave in various places, they swarm on it, take back to the nest, i am releatively ant free most of the summer. They always come back the next spring though.

peppermint oil on my tile let it sit for a spell and then wipe off....also grow peppermint around the area that is most pesky and they won't cross it.....another thing you can do is Cinnamon around the perimeter of your outside and the ants wont cross that either!

I found a liquid called Revenge at the local WalMart. I used to use Terro. Try them both.

I buy ant buttons. My cousin sprays them with cleaning products and watches them die.

Follow them back to whence they came and spray the nest and the line back to where you found them in the house. We have some too, haven't had them for years.
