Advantage: everybody gets in. Of course, with all the indigent assistance programs around, that's really already the case.

Disadvantage: we'll have the same quality care as they get everywhere else. There won't be an incentive to provide truly excellent care anymore, and cutting edge medicine will fall by the wayside.

Honestly, the biggest disadvantage would be the never-ending line of people who would try to qualify for it. I'm not against immigration, but we can't close our borders and dont have enough power to stop people from becoming citizens to where we could actually afford universal healthcare. Plus, there's always the concern that if you make something universal, the quality decreases.

Now, if we were to put all of that money that's going to the war (96 million? or was it billion?) towards healthcare, maybe we could do it.

Even then, we'd have lots of homeless people who would never die...

my point is that we have bigger fish to fry.

Disadvantages include: Tax payers would continue to pay for health care but it would go through the government coffers first make it even more impractical. Anything the government runs is not done so efficiently. We would lose the right to choose our doctors and could have some of our medical choices made for us. There would be a shortage of doctors because of the burden it would create without a remibursement wage worth working for. It would continue to make people rely on the government to do for them. It is not one of our rights guaranteed under the constitution.

The only advantage is that people who have relied on the government to solve all of their problems could feel more secure.

1 out of every 4 Christians in the world are Catholic. But the Catholic Church has changed over the years, just like the numbers have. Some Catholic Churches are old fashion, and some are more modern and lenient. That's why most people brake off into Protestant churches. As for the "no religion" people, some people that believe in God choose not to call it a "religion". Have you ever heard the saying "Jesus is my savior. Not my religion." It pretty much means worship God the way the bible says to, not the way man-made religious groups tell you to. As for the atheist, more people are becoming too smart, and thinking science is the key to everything.

Universal health care (socialized medicine) has been tried in many countries, best known might be France and Canada, just to name two. Healthcare in those countries is a waiting game, perhaps needing to wait months to see a specialist or to get life saving surguries, etc. Expiring due to the illness (i.e. cancer) while waiting for such care is listed in the top (x) percentage of causes of death in those countries. Socialism sounds wonderful on paper, makes great sound bites for our left wing politicians yet in practice it has historically been a failure. The resulting tax burdon to those choosing to work and work hard to pay for the "free" healthcare becomes an economic disaster, examples of such and the reasoning for it might be too lengthy for this entry, not to mention being too dry for yahoo-heads to enjoy much!

Advantage: A handful of folks will receive better care than they do now.

Disadvantage: Not remotely affordable given the level of unfunded mandates already on the books (read: it's a pipe dream on sale by liberal politicians looking for votes).
