Who Pitches Faster??

Question

Me and these 2 boys were arguing in class. They said a boy can pitch a softball faster than a girl under-hand. Do you think so??

This is kind of a goofy question and something 3 guys should never be arguing about but I dont think it matters boy or girl. I think it is the whip your arm puts on the ball, not the muscle mass throwing it. If both boy/girl are in shape they with the same technique should be able to throw about the same speed.

The fastest guy softball pitcher can throw faster than the fastest girl softball pitcher. I play fastpitch softball with a bunch of guys and my girlfriend who also plays college softball. I have noticed that the guys that pitch throw harder than the girls that pitch and even harder than most of the college pitchers. They think they are good but they don't put any movement on the ball and every pitch is a juicy fastball right down the middle of the plate.

It really comes out about equal and it also depends who is pitching for example Cat Osterman former University of Texas softball pitcher threw 67 mph hour that is equivalent to a 95 mph fastball in the majors. So to answer your question it is about equal because all the power comes from your hips.

There were two travelling teams of softball phenoms in the 70's. One named "The King and his Court" and consisted of a pitcher who recorded speeds upwards of 114 mph, a cathcher, and a fielder/first baseman. A women's team came about soon after with a similar line up, and the woman could throw in triple digits, but nowhere near "the King".

at what distance? You have to remember that girls pitching a softball stands closer to home plate. There are some math involve in the argument.
