I delivered in Germany so my stay was longer and they provided different things and I was prepared for that. There wasn't anything I really needed once I got there, but I agree with the pillow and the chapstick. Whether you're nursing or not make sure you have a comfortable bra (I didn't go up even one cup until after my daughter was born and when the milk came in I went up 2). The doctors were also glad to see I had knit pajama pants because there's an increased risk for thrombosis after delivery. Had I been home and closer to family, I probably would have benefited greatly from a big, scary bouncer at my room door! :)
Oh, and my own toiletries were SO great, especially that first morning after the birth (I delivered at 10pm). Had toiletries been provided, they would have ranked with hotel soap and after giving birth you really want something you're used to and comfortable with.
Congrats and good luck.

CHAPSTICK and extra hair ties! When I went into labor with my first, he was early (34 weeks) so I had nothing packed. My lips got soooo dry and my hair tie broke an hour into the hospital stay. It took me nearly two hours to work out the knots after delivery. With my second, I had two sticks of chapstick and several hair ties and it was much easier. The stay in the hospital got a little tiresome. I was wired from adrenaline but the baby slept a lot so I was quickly bored. This time (I'm at 31 weeks with number three), I'm bringing a puzzle book or something too.

My husband was with me throughout labor, but the hospital doesn't provide food for dads! I brought crackers, beef jerky, gummy bears and baby carrots for him to snack on. I don't think he would have been able to stay with me for the full labor if we hadn't brought him some food. Don't forget to bring him some extra clothes and toiletries and maybe some ear plugs to block out all the beeps, too.
I'm glad I brought a book to read to keep my mind off the early labor pains. Hair ties were a life-saver.

I had my robe and slippers and it was so wonderful ... also my own pillows.
I also had newborn clothes and receiving blankets for the babies. I wanted them to be comfortable too since we were staying four days. That was nice to have so they didn't have to be in a tee shirt and hospital blanket the whole time.
Make sure you bring your own toiletries and hair dryer. The hospital doesn't have them. Use their towels so you don't mess up your own.
Lastly, your cell phone, charger and a list of people to call when the baby's born.
All the fluffy stuff like candles and cds, you won't need.

Make sure you take your pillow from home. You will be happy you did. Having said that the most important thing is to use a pillow case that isn't white or it will get mixed up with the Hospital stuff. Maybe bright pink or blue.LOL Good Luck!

I didnt have a list but I knew I'd want socks-toothpaste-hairbrush-body wash and things like that. When I went into labor early {as expected} I had nothing with me and had to send my husband home for it. I wish he had brought me some chapstick and a large cup to drink from {or for ice chips} as well as pads that actually stuck to my panties! Oh and a book so my husband would not have wanted me to play cards with him while I was in labor

jolly ranchers, and hide them, you really do not need much til it's time to go home, do not wear your sox or pj's til after baby comes, use the hospitals, they will get all yucked up , bring your own pads if you do not like the belt type, slippers are a must and bathrobe, put your keepsake book in the delivery room open to the page for hand and foot prints , so when they do them they do the book also, and remind them, the nurse will be happy to do it, good luck,

I second the chapstick! Or hard candy. I was glad that I brought socks because for some reason I was burning up except for my feet! They were freezing.

things to read and games, crosswords to do. It gets really boring laying in the bed for a long time.
