I applied to 4 and got accepted at all. Don't freak out. Only apply to schools that you would actually attend if accepted. Make your first choice a school that has a great program in an area where you are geuinely interested and enthusiastic. Skip the drugs and sex schools.... leave them for future politicians.

I applied to 9. Got accepted to 5 (SJSU, SFSU, Long Beach State, U.C.S.B., and U.C.S.C.). but now that I think about it, it was a really stupid decision since I'm only going to be attending one of these schools anyways, I knew I was gonna be rejected to the other 4, and I really didn't do much research into the areas where the schools are at or how the student life is like until much later. There's $480 in application fees well spent. :(
Also, it makes it harder for the less competitive students since they'll be rejected because of how many people are applying, and most of those really good students probably won't even attend that school while someone with a lower gpa or less extracurriculars would get rejected to it just because of lack of space.

They probably wanted to get into the best rather then what was best for them...
I applied and got into my dream school.

Good luck!
