This was the email I got:

"A well known Taiwanese medical professor specialize[d] in cancer research based in a Japanese university a survey on 30,000 pre-cancer patients.

She found these patients are very choosy in their food, wash their hair during their period, carry heavy object[s] and drink cold drinks. This will cause incomplete ovulation, and the remaining menses will turn into toxins [whilst] the imbalance of hormones will lead to ovary and breast cancer.

During the research she found the method of prevention to this cancer.

The secrets are:
1. One must change their lifestyle and eating habits.
2. Do not wash our hair while having period; do not wash your hair just for the cooling effect and contraction of ovary.
3. Excessive bleeding must be investigated by a gynecologist.
4. No cold drinks.

If you feel drowsy, breast expansion and constipation these are the early symptoms of ovary or breast cancer."

So now what do you guys think?

This is the continuation of the email:

"If you feel drowsy, breast expansion and constipation these are the early symptom[s] of ovary or breast cancer.

To prevent, [combine]:
1. Black sugar
2. Chinese lotus (leng ngau)
3. Carrot
4. Barley

Boil to soup and drink. This is the best prevention."

There are no issues with taking showers, baths, washing your hair, etc, during your menstural cycle. In fact, I know many women, myself included, that really enjoy a nice, long warm shower during their period. Heat, while affecting sperm, has no effect on your ovaries, ovulation, or your ovum (egg). It also will not change your hormones what so ever.

You should feel to shower, bathe, drink cold drinks, etc. If you feel like eating chocolate, eat it. If you're comfortable carrying heavy objects, do it.

Article, IMHO, is full of bull.

I agree this isn't an email I would take seriously at all. If you talk to all of the women that have had ovarian or breast cancer these symptoms would sound ludicrous! There is no evidence that washing your hair or drinking cold drinks will give you cancer. Tumors come about for different reasons and these aren't it. I think these people want to scare whoever reads this.

I am skeptical. This reminds me of things passed on to my mother's generation 30's-50's here in the USA. Not that all myths are totally untrue, as we are finding out all the time in health care.

That is such a load of rubbish! Don't take any of it to heart! So just because we have our period, we cannot be clean....! Don't think so!

And if the "taiwanese medical professor" is so well known, why is her name no where to be seen?

I have never heard anything like this before, its probably some sort of spam email. If this was the case then there would have been evidence of this way before now.

Yep, it sounds to strange to be true, and i know for a fact that you can take a shower during your period, it's just an old wife's tale saying you can't.
