Marriage in the state's eyes is basically a merger of assets. So how does gays getting married in the eyes of the STATE ruin the sanctity of HOLY MATRIMONY or what it is to be married in the eyes of GOD? They're two completely different things.

Um...I'm not actually gay myself. It IS possible to care about a cause that doesn't directly affect you.

I agree, and I have the solution that would end this whole debate instantly. Are you ready?

I think that everyone straight or gay, that wants to be joined together should first go to the state and have a civil union. This would grant people the civil rights, such as tax breaks, rights to make medical decisions for the other, community property, etc. Then, if they are religious and straight, they can go to their church and get "married" and have the union recognized by their church. Conversely, people could get married by their church without getting the civil union, but they would not get any of the rights or protections from the state. We should make "marriage" a wholly separate and wholly religious term, and it would be coompletely separate from anything related to government.

I am a straight man, and me and my wife basically got a civil union because we are both atheists. We went to a clerk of the peace, and we were married in the county government building. There was no religion involved, but we have the tax breaks and survivorship rights that are granted by the state. I would be completely fine with calling my situation a civil union, and letting the religious people have the term marriage.

I'm sorry but as far as i can tell marriage is an institution that was started by god ....adam and eve ....and even if you don't believe that it was started in fact by people who believed in god and the power to seal a man and wife together while they are on earth ....so it is simply a distortion of that practice that constitutes marriage of state...if in fact marriage of state is simply a merger or assets is there no other way for homosexual individuals to do that without marriage ...perhaps a financial merger instead of disturbing what the majority of people consider to be a holy religious ceremony .....simply for the sake of being recognized or for their desire to bring attention to themselves unfortunately for them in this country majority rules ...and the majority says that the holy sanctity of matrimony is between a man and a woman

That is why it should be called a civil union, not a marriage. They would legally be merging their assets and have the same protection as the people that get married under God, without being a religious ceremony.
I don't care if gay people want to make it legal, I just object to it being labeled the same as a marriage under the eyes of God. It's not for me to judge gay people, but it would be a slap in the face of most religions to perform a religious marriage for same sex couples.

I feel there are too many elements worried in fitting a married couple. First of all you bigger be rattling good certain you're going to NEVER desire an additional individual to your lifestyles that's as most important because the individual you marry! Unfortunately all of us difference as do our emotions, that is not ever handy to manage. Strong dedication and the must do the correct factor, emotionally and ethically can maintain men and women in combination even tho they wish anybody else. Gues what I'm pronouncing is - The Single Life is MY tradition!!! I'm cozy with it!

God created marriage, the state only adopted it. If some people just want to merge their assets, they should ask the state to legislate law regarding that 'some sort of a merger'.

The State doesn't want gay's to get married. because they can't have a baby together. You need a man and a women to make a baby. This messes up the human race! yes they can adopt, but physially they can not have a baby together.

God says in the Bible a marriage is betweena man and a woma not a man and a man, or a woman and a woman. If you beleive in the bible, then that's your answer.

my opinion.

After reading the question and some of the answers... it's no wonder the divorce rate is so high.

Everybody wants to make a marriage into what is convenient for them, and if its not convenient for them, or just what they want when they want it, then throw it out! How self-centered and self-serving.

And....I hate to point it out to everyone....but the "bible" was written by men.....supposedly inspired by God...but let's face it....it was written by a bunch of men, who wanted to "control" the actions of those around them.....Jim Jones, David Koresh, Charles Manson.....all did the same thing....

And let's face the truth.....MEN in later years, decided which areas of the bible would be omitted to suit their needs....there is no reason to believe that the sections of the bible that are "anti" gay weren't added or changed to suit homophobes way back then.....

It's still about control....about someone, somewhere forcing their bigotry on us....even when voters speak, you've got some fundamental christian (and let's face it, they're as scary as any terrorist I've seen)....telling us who we can love, what makes a family and when and where we can do those things.....

Keeping gays from getting married, and denying them the same rights that everyone else has is no different than what we've denied other races/groups in the past.

It is not the state marriage of gays that God cares about. It is the abomination of human nature and the souls of those involved in the activity that God cares about. Christians care about the state marriage because it gives legitimacy to the gay lifestyle.

It says in the Bible that a man and a women are to be together, it doesn't say anywhere in there about God being okay with man-and-man, no that is wrong!! If God doesn't save you out of that sinfulness you will go to hell, period!
The state doesn't know much, but at least they have that marriage rule. No gays are to be united. Yes!!
