Refinement and Octane levels, petrol has octane from 87-93 while diesel is very low 40

The only difference is of Fractional Distillation in the refinery, it is a residual product of crude oil.
Next Diesel it is more cheaper,but highly environmental pollutantant as compared to petrol.
Last it's cheaper than petrol.

Petrol, or unleaded gasoline to us Americans, burns at a faster rate ie: it is explosive. Diesel is more oily and burns much slower. Gasoline is ignited in the engine by a spark plug while diesel ignites due to piston compression.
