Although the 512 266 mhz will slow the access speed down, I would opt for the 768 megs of ram. Its 6 of one and half dozen of the other....If you use extensive amounts of ram, it will be in your favor. If you arent working the whole original 512, you might see a little slower performance.

Don't listen to the first poster, he doesn't know the difference between a memory module and his rear-end.
You do not have to match pairs of memory. That is a misconception that started with the old SIMM memory modules, then it was rebirthed with the RD or RAMBUS memory that came out with the old P4. Both of those old types of memory needed to be paired to work.
Newer memory does not require that at all, though some desktop motherboards have "Dual Channel" memory. Which allows you to get better data transfer rates if you match pairs.
Answer "B" would give you the most benefit.
But why wouldn't you just buy 512 of 333mhz? It can't be that much more expensive than the 266mhz and would be worth the few extra bucks.

Mixing the two memory speeds will cause them both to function on the lower speed. Meaning the 333mhz will only run at 266mhz. If it will run at all. Not all system board allow you to mix memory speeds.
You can try B, but if the PC will not boot, you keep getting crashes, then go with only the 333 memory.

memory will only run as fast as the slowest. so if you mix a 333 with a 266, it will only run 266.
check the motherboard to make sure the memory is compatable in the first place. If not, nothing will work.
The difference between 266 and 333 is there but minimal and you will prob not even notice it.
I would think the extra 256 will be more beneficial than the extra mhz since there is such a minimal differnce.

i will go for the optio A
256MB 333mhz + 256MB 333mhz
cause they are the same mhz
the trouble of different speeds on memory is not only that is going to work at the at the slowest one speed... depends the PC bus, can freeze sometimes... then blue windows

You'll damage your computer if you install 2 different amounts of Ram on different DIMM slots.
you can either: 256+256
512+512
1024+1024 or
1024+1024+1024+1024

If you just want something fast, go for A. BUT if you tend to open many applications at the same time, go for B.
