All of the Obvious electro/mechanical,
chemical/biological methods are common knowledge to most civilized/educated folks. Unusual method I contrived some 50 years ago was to build a Battery Pile with enough voltage and current to power a very small transistor radio. The Pile consisted of Silver U.S Quarters and Mexican Copper 50? Centavo coins. The coins were stacked one on top of the other with a thin piece of Paper Towel as an insulator between each coin. a wire was attached to the first silver coin and the last copper coin in the stack. when I soaked the paper towels with Saliva this electrolyte solution caused the usual electro-chemical reaction (causing electrons to move about and producing a usable voltage to power the radio as long as the saliva didn't dry up. ( could have used salt water , but SPIT seemed like a cool thing to use in those days !

Beyond making herds of gerbils spin wheels, there are some fringe methods in use now. Wastes are often burned to produce power, including methane and other natural gases produced from landfills. Another option is 'wave energy', where big floating chains of cylinders use the up and down motion of waves to produce power.
